Danish startup Behold has launched their first product on Kickstarter, the Behold Cam-1, a compact wildlife camera that makes it easy for anyone to capture the hidden life right in their backyard. The camera automatically detects animals, records 2K clips at up to 60fps, and sends the results to a companion app with the species already identified. Privacy is built in with on-device human detection and deletion, so only wildlife activity is stored. Early backers can save up to 30% on the retail price, with delivery scheduled for 2026. Let’s take a look at this new camera! Behold was founded by Pete Lacey, former VP of Design at Pleo, impact-tech founder James Read, and biodiversity technologist Chris Oram. Their goal was to rethink traditional trail cameras, which are often bulky and built for hunters or researchers, and instead create something suited to everyday use in both in urban and suburban settings. How it works The Cam-1 records short 15-second clips whenever motion is detected, grouping them by species. It uses onboard AI to recognize more than 2,000 species across North America and Europe, and it filters out humans so only wildlife events are kept. Infrared night vision captures footage after dark, and a built-in microphone records ambient sound for context. Footage is stored locally on the device’s 128GB internal memory. When Wi-Fi 6 is available, the clips sync automatically to the companion app. If the camera is offline, it saves clips until back in range, ensuring no activity is lost....
